The Friends of the Aiken Symphony Orchestra has partnered with the Weill Institute of Carnegie Hall in presenting this season’s Children’s Concerts. Through this partnership with the institute’s “Link Up” program, we have learning materials available to all elementary school music teachers throughout Aiken and Edgefield Counties for use in fifth-grade classrooms to learn about the classical music they will hear. The curriculum culminates with the Aiken Symphony Orchestra’s children’s performances in February each year. Students will have the opportunity to sing and play the recorder or violin along with the orchestra. This performance often serves as students’ first concert experience and provides them with the opportunity to apply the musical concepts they have studied.
The Friends of Aiken Symphony Orchestra is one of more than 90 national and international organizations chosen for this program. The Friends is deeply appreciative of the financial support given by the South Carolina Arts Commission, Security Federal Bank, and donations from Friends members, who make this educational, community outreach program possible.
